Mac’s is an American classic diner right from the 1950’s - just without all the annoying Marilyn Monroe pictures. I’ve seen Mac’s restaurant on Higgins and Cumberland for years, but I had no idea how good it was till just recently. From the outside, its not much to look like and parking looks limited. It’s not the easiest restaurant to park at as you have to go west on Higgins street to get it. However, once you sit at their lengthy bar or cozy booth you will feel right at home.
The above picture is their Breakfast Burrito with sausage, egg, cheese, peppers, onion, and wrap. It’s damn good and quite filling. It also comes with a cup of salsa that is home made and compliments this burrito nicely.
If I could eat the servers I would - not literally, but they are that good! As soon as you sit down you can expect a hot cup of coffee waiting if you want one. The bill is brought to you quickly and the prices are fair for the quality of food you get. No one is pictured above as I was there around 2:3o PM. Make sure you take notice of their hours as they only serve an early breakfast crowd and a lunch crowd.
The seating is very comfortable but limited, especially on weekend’s when the breakfast crowd is at a peak. The menu is quite extensive and there are dozens of breakfast and lunch items that are sure to fill your stomach and eyes with delight.
Though the restaurant may not be much to look at or easy to get in and out of - the food and service is to die for. Mac’s is a family run enterprise surrounded by corporate restaurants that lack quality ingredients and a personal touch. If you are looking for one of the best lunches in Chicago be sure to visit:
